Job Description

About Loombotic We're reimagining how wire harnesses are manufactured. Backed by Y Combinator, we're on a mission to build the world's first fully automated wire harness factory. Wire harnesses are the nervous systems of everything from EVs to aircraft to data centers. Despite being a $200B+ market, manufacturing is still surprisingly manual and inefficient. We're changing that through building robotics and automation. The Role As our founding mechanical engineer, you'll architect and build the automation systems that will revolutionize wire harness production. This is a hands-on role where you'll deeply understand every aspect of the manufacturing process while designing the machines and systems to automate it. You'll wear multiple hats - from understanding the intricacies of wire harness assembly to designing fixtures, programming robots, and scaling our production capabilities through smart automation. What You'll Do Design and build automation - Create machines, fixtures, and robotic systems for wire harness manufacturing Master the domain - Become an expert in wire harness production processes and quality standards Own quality - Develop testing and inspection systems to ensure reliability Shape our technology - As a founding engineer, your decisions will define our technical architecture for years Required Skills Mechanical engineering fundamentals - Understanding of mechanics, materials, and manufacturing processes CAD proficiency - Experience with SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar Hands-on building experience - Comfortable with tools and making things (whether through internships, projects, or hobbies) Problem-solving mindset - Ability to break down complex problems into solvable pieces Fast learner - Eager to pick up new skills from YouTube, documentation, and experimentation Startup ready - Excited by ambiguity, wearing multiple hats, and building from zero Nice-to-Have's Experience with wire harnesses, cable assemblies, or electrical connectors Robotics or automation project experience Programming skills (Python, C++, Arduino, etc.) Machine shop experience (mill, lathe, 3D printing) Knowledge of industrial automation (PLCs, vision systems, motion control) Experience with compliant/flexible material handling Previous startup or small company experience IPC/WHMA-A-620 certification or knowledge What We Offer Founding equity - Significant ownership in a YC-backed company Competitive salary - We pay market rates plus meaningful equity Direct impact - Your work directly determines our success Growth trajectory - Clear path to leadership positions as we scale Learning budget - Resources for courses, conferences, and equipment Build something meaningful - Help revolutionize a massive, critical industry Who You Are You're the kind of person who: Takes things apart to see how they work Gets excited about both elegant designs and quick hacks that work Thinks "I could automate this" while doing repetitive tasks Enjoys switching between theoretical and practical work Wants to build a company, not just write code or design parts Ready to build the future of manufacturing? — We're an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse team. New grads encouraged to apply - we value potential and passion over years of experience.
