About the Role

This Applied Science Intern role at Microsoft involves conducting research in AI and Gaming to advance computer science knowledge. The intern will formulate research problems, develop prototypes, and collaborate with researchers and product teams on multimodal models for gaming applications.

Key Responsibilities

  • Experiment, benchmark and improve performance of cutting-edge multimodal models on Gaming applications
  • Implement prototypes of scalable and efficient multimodal models in gaming applications
  • Collaborate closely with team members on developing systems and models from prototyping to production deployment
  • Research new tools, technologies, and methods being used in the research community
  • Contribute specialized knowledge to support planning for research projects

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

  • Currently pursuing a Doctorate or Master's Degree in a relevant field (Machine Learning, AI, Computer Vision, NLP)
  • Must have at least one additional quarter/semester of school remaining after internship
  • Enrolled in a full-time PhD or Master's program during academic term before internship
  • Demonstrate depth of knowledge in Natural Language Understanding, Computer Vision, Machine Learning, or related AI fields

Nice to Have:

  • Experience creating, benchmarking, and training models using Python, PyTorch, and PyTorch Lightning
  • One or more publications in top-tier conferences or journals (NeurIPS, ICLR, CVPR, etc.)
  • Experience working with Multi-modal data (visual, audio, language) and models (transformers, diffusion, flow-matching)
