About the Role

The Applied Scientist II role on the Amazon Books personalization team focuses on developing and implementing innovative recommendation systems to help customers discover books they'll love. You will collaborate with scientists, engineers, and product teams to build models using NLP, reinforcement learning, and deep learning. Responsibilities include developing recommendation pipelines, analyzing models, and running A/B tests.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with scientists, economists, engineers, analysts, and business partners
  • Utilize large-scale computing and data resources to analyze customer behavior and product relationships
  • Build and maintain recommendation models and assist in running A/B tests
  • Develop and implement solutions to improve recommendation systems
  • Analyze deep learning-based recommendation models and collaborate with engineering and product teams

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

  • PhD, or Master's degree and 4+ years of CS, CE, ML or related field experience
  • Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
  • Experience in algorithms and data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel and distributed computing, or high-performance computing

Nice to Have:

  • Experience using Unix/Linux
  • Experience in professional software development
