About the Role

The Applied Scientist role focuses on developing AI-powered visual translation technology to break down language barriers for Amazon customers. Responsibilities include designing machine learning models for image translation, advancing Visual Language Model research, and publishing findings at top-tier conferences. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional teams to translate research into production systems serving millions globally.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and deploy state-of-the-art machine learning models for image translation across multiple languages and scripts
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to solve complex problems in Visual Language Model space for translation use cases
• Design and execute experiments to evaluate model performance across diverse image types, languages, and domains
• Create comprehensive evaluation frameworks for assessing model performance across different languages, scripts, and visual domains
• Work with Applied Scientists, MLEs, and engineers to translate research prototypes into production systems

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

• Experience programming in Java, C++, Python or related language
• Master's degree
• Experience researching about machine learning, deep learning, NLP, computer vision, data science

Nice to Have:

• Experience in state-of-the-art deep learning models architecture design and deep learning training and optimization and model pruning
• Have publications at top-tier peer-reviewed conferences or journals
