About the Role

The Data Center Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing critical facility operations and maintenance at AWS data centers. They act as the primary escalation point for facilities issues, manage electrical and mechanical systems, and lead a team of technicians. The role involves troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and ensuring high uptime for mission-critical infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as primary escalation point for all facilities-related issues and oversee critical systems like switchgear, generators, UPS, and cooling equipment
  • Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and troubleshoot within internal SLAs
  • Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and help set team culture
  • Create and deploy standard practices for technicians and vendor support teams
  • Work with IT managers to coordinate projects, manage capacity, and optimize safety and efficiency

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

  • Technical (Military/Trade School) training or degree in a relevant field (e.g., electrical, mechanical)
  • 3+ years of electrical or mechanical experience
  • 3+ years of data center or mission critical facilities experience (e.g., hospital, military facility)

Nice to Have:

  • 4+ years of Data Center Engineering Experience
  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree
  • Experience leading a team
