About the Role

The Data Center Chief Engineer ensures 100% availability of critical MEP infrastructure in AWS data centers. They oversee electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment, perform maintenance, and act as the primary escalation point for facilities issues. This role involves leading technicians, managing projects, and ensuring safety and efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as primary escalation point for all facilities-related issues and oversee operation of critical systems like switchgear, generators, UPS, chillers, and cooling towers.
  • Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and troubleshoot facility issues within internal Service Level Agreements.
  • Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and help set team culture with the Facility Manager.
  • Create and deploy new standard practices for technicians, chief engineers, and vendor support teams.
  • Manage projects from conception to completion, including coordinating with external groups and tracking costs.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

  • Technical (Military/Trade School) training or degree in a relevant field (e.g., electrical, mechanical).
  • 3+ years of electrical or mechanical experience.
  • 3+ years of data center or mission critical facilities experience (e.g., hospital, military facility).

Nice to Have:

  • 4+ years of Data Center Engineering Experience.
  • Associates or Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Experience leading a team.
