About the Role

The Data Center Chief Engineer oversees critical infrastructure systems in AWS data centers, ensuring high availability and reliability. They manage facility operations, lead technical teams, and handle emergency escalations. This role involves troubleshooting electrical and mechanical equipment while maintaining safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as primary escalation point for facilities-related issues and oversee critical systems like switchgear, generators, and UPS
  • Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and troubleshoot within SLAs
  • Train and guide Engineering Operations Technicians and set team culture with Facility Manager
  • Create and deploy standard practices for technicians and vendor support teams
  • Manage projects from conception to completion, collaborating with engineering and finance teams

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

  • 3+ years of relevant technical position, or 2+ years of professional or military experience
  • 3+ years of electrical or mechanical experience
  • 3+ years of data center or mission critical facilities experience
  • Ability to work outside normal hours for maintenance and emergency calls

Nice to Have:

  • 3+ years of construction or project management experience
  • Operating engineering license such as DC II, DC III, or equivalent
  • Experience in construction or project management
