About the Role
The Data Center Chief Engineer oversees critical infrastructure operations and maintenance in AWS data centers. They act as the primary escalation point for facilities issues, manage routine and emergency services, and lead a team of technicians. The role involves troubleshooting electrical and mechanical systems, performing root cause analysis, and ensuring high uptime standards.Key Responsibilities
- Act as primary escalation point for facilities issues and oversee critical systems like switchgear, generators, UPS, and chillers
- Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and troubleshoot within SLAs
- Train and guide Engineering Operations Technicians and help set team culture
- Create and deploy standard practices for technicians and vendor support teams
- Manage projects from conception to completion, collaborating with engineering and finance teams
Required Skills & Qualifications
Must Have:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related field
- Experience carrying new design concepts through exploration, development, and deployment
- Experience in MS Excel, Word, and Windows Operating Systems
- Experience with power management and power monitoring systems
Nice to Have:
- 5+ years of project management in data centers or comparable critical infrastructure
- Knowledge of critical data center equipment and engineering documentation
- Knowledge of building codes and regulations like NFPA, NEC, or OSHA
