About the Role

The Data Center Chief Engineer ensures all electrical, mechanical, and safety equipment in AWS data centers operates at peak efficiency. They manage maintenance, emergency response, and lead a team of technicians while overseeing critical systems like power and cooling. This role involves capacity planning, vendor coordination, and on-call support for facility operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead the DCEO Engineering Team, including shift technicians and vendors
  • Establish performance benchmarks and prepare reports on critical facility operations and maintenance
  • Oversee operation and management of routine and emergency services on critical systems (e.g., switchgear, generators, UPS, chillers)
  • Conduct data center capacity planning and reporting, and assist in new facility design
  • Respond to out-of-hours emergency calls as the first escalation point for facility issues

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

  • 3+ years of electrical or mechanical experience
  • 3+ years of data center or mission critical facilities experience (e.g., hospital, military facility)
  • Technical (Military/Trade School) training or degree in a relevant field (e.g., electrical, mechanical)

Nice to Have:

  • 4+ years of data center engineering experience
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree
  • Experience leading a team
