About the Role

The Data Center Chief Engineer ensures 100% availability of critical physical infrastructure supporting AWS data centers. They manage electrical, mechanical, and fire/life safety equipment, lead engineering teams, and oversee maintenance and emergency response. This role involves capacity planning, vendor management, and on-call support.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and lead the DCEO Engineering Team, including shift technicians and vendors
  • Oversee operation and maintenance of critical systems like switchgear, generators, UPS, chillers, and cooling towers
  • Establish performance benchmarks, conduct analyses, and prepare reports on facility operations
  • Respond to emergency calls and serve as first-level escalation for data center facility issues
  • Train and develop Engineering Operations Technicians, including night shift personnel

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

  • 3+ years of electrical or mechanical engineering experience
  • 3+ years of data center or mission critical facilities experience (e.g., hospital, military facility)
  • Technical training or degree in a relevant field (e.g., electrical, mechanical) from military/trade school or equivalent

Nice to Have:

  • 4+ years of data center engineering experience
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree
  • Experience leading a team
