About the Role

The Data Center Chief Engineer oversees critical infrastructure systems in AWS data centers, ensuring high availability and reliability. They manage facility operations, lead technical teams, and handle emergency responses. This role involves troubleshooting electrical and mechanical equipment while maintaining safety and efficiency standards.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as primary escalation point for facilities-related issues and oversee critical systems like switchgear, generators, and chillers
  • Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and troubleshoot within SLAs
  • Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and help set team culture
  • Create and deploy standard practices for operations teams and assist in facility build-outs
  • Manage projects from conception to completion, collaborating with engineering and finance teams

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

  • 3+ years of electrical or mechanical experience
  • 3+ years of data center or mission critical facilities experience
  • Technical training or degree in a relevant field (e.g., electrical, mechanical)
  • Ability to work outside normal hours and respond to emergency calls

Nice to Have:

  • 4+ years of data center engineering experience
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree
  • Experience leading teams
