About the Role

The Data Center Chief Engineer - Night acts as the primary escalation point for facilities issues at AWS data centers, overseeing critical electrical and mechanical systems. They lead troubleshooting, maintenance, and emergency response for equipment ensuring 99.999% uptime, while training technicians and managing projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act as primary escalation point for facilities issues and oversee critical systems like switchgear, generators, UPS, chillers
  • Perform root cause analysis of equipment failures and troubleshoot within SLAs
  • Provide training and guidance to Engineering Operations Technicians and help set team culture
  • Create and deploy standard practices for technicians and vendor teams
  • Manage projects from conception to completion, coordinating with engineering and finance teams

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

  • 3+ years of electrical or mechanical experience
  • 3+ years of data center or mission critical facilities experience
  • Technical training or degree in a relevant field (e.g., electrical, mechanical)
  • Ability to work night shifts and respond to emergency calls outside normal hours

Nice to Have:

  • 4+ years of data center engineering experience
  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree
  • Experience leading teams
