About the Role

Principal AI Engineer role at Microsoft Security AI, leading AI-native security product incubation and platformization. Responsibilities include setting multi-year strategy, driving zero-to-one R&D, and scaling AI features across Microsoft Security products. Requires extensive experience in AI/ML systems, cross-functional leadership, and security domain expertise.

Key Responsibilities

• Define vision, strategy, and roadmap for AI-native incubation initiatives across security products
• Lead zero-to-one incubation R&D through MVP and drive platformization to general availability
• Provide hands-on technical leadership: prototype, review designs, define APIs, and build evaluation frameworks
• Set strategy for AI-native security experiences, including LLM vs classical ML decisions and RAG design
• Ensure Responsible AI, privacy, and security guardrails are integrated from the start

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding (C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python) OR equivalent experience
• 6+ years experience driving complex, cross-functional initiatives and leading without authority across teams
• 3+ years working with ML/AI systems (LLMs/GenAI, RAG, model serving, data pipelines) including evaluation metrics and model quality improvement
• Ability to pass Microsoft Cloud background check and meet security screening requirements

Nice to Have:

• Master's Degree in Computer Science or related field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience OR Bachelor's Degree AND 12+ years experience
• Security domain expertise (threat detection, SIEM/SOAR, identity, endpoint, cloud security)
• Experience with GenAI/LLM techniques (prompt engineering, vector stores, agents, content safety, eval frameworks)
• Proven track record shipping cloud services or platforms at scale with measurable impact
• Hands-on coding ability in languages like Python, C#, C++, Rust, or JavaScript/TypeScript
