About the Role

Principal Applied Scientist role focused on integrating cutting-edge AI research into Microsoft's Agent Foundry Platform. Responsibilities include translating scientific advancements into production features, optimizing AI agent performance, and collaborating across research and engineering teams. The position requires expertise in machine learning, Python programming, and experience with production AI systems.

Key Responsibilities

• Shape direction of Agent Foundry Platform and agent self-improvement
• Bridge gaps between researchers to translate applied research into production features
• Bring new technologies like RLHF into production for agent self-improvement
• Drive negotiations across teams to apply cutting-edge technology to products
• Leverage data and experimentation to refine product opportunities

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

• Bachelor's Degree in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering or related field with 6+ years experience OR Master's with 4+ years OR Doctorate with 3+ years OR equivalent experience
• 2+ years foundation in machine learning and applied AI techniques including model evaluation and optimization
• 3+ years of experience programming in Python
• 1+ years of experience in fine-tuning and post-training strategies for models in production environments
• Ability to pass Microsoft Cloud background check

Nice to Have:

• 8+ years experience with Bachelor's OR 6+ years with Master's OR 5+ years with Doctorate
• 4+ years foundation in machine learning and applied AI techniques
• 2+ years experience with prompt engineering and optimization for large language models
• 3+ years experience presenting at conferences as invited speaker
• 7+ years experience conducting research in academic or industry settings
• 5+ years experience developing and deploying live production systems
• 7+ years experience developing and deploying products throughout product cycle
