About the Role

Principal Applied Scientist role in AGI Foundations, focusing on driving Generative AI technologies for Amazon-scale use cases. Responsibilities include defining research directions, developing novel ML techniques, and translating research into practice. The role requires technical leadership, mentoring, and influencing strategic decisions.

Key Responsibilities

• Define key research directions and adopt/invent new machine learning techniques
• Conduct rigorous experiments, publish results, and ensure research translates into practice
• Develop long-term strategies, persuade teams to adopt them, and deliver on goals
• Participate in organizational planning, hiring, mentorship, and leadership development
• Serve as a key scientific resource in full-cycle development from conception to maintenance

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

• PhD in AI, NLP, machine learning, or computational cognitive science
• 10+ years of combined academic and research experience
• Strong publication record in top-tier journals and conferences
• Experience developing software in traditional programming languages (C++, Java, etc.)

Nice to Have:

• Strong software development skills
• Experience working effectively with science, data processing, and software engineering teams
• Proven track record of innovation in creating novel algorithms and advancing state of the art
