About the Role

Principal Applied Scientist role in Amazon's AGI organization, leading technical strategy and research for Generative AI technologies. Responsible for defining research directions, developing scalable ML solutions, and mentoring scientists while driving innovation in large-scale AI applications.

Key Responsibilities

• Define key research directions and adopt/invent new machine learning techniques
• Conduct rigorous experiments, publish results, and translate research into practice
• Develop long-term strategies and persuade teams to adopt those strategies
• Participate in organizational planning, hiring, mentorship and leadership development
• Serve as key scientific resource in full-cycle development from conception to maintenance

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

• 5+ years of practical work applying ML to solve complex problems
• Graduate degree with specialization in AI, NLP, ML, or computational cognitive science
• 7+ years of combined academic and research experience
• Strong publication record in top-tier journals and conferences

Nice to Have:

• PhD with specialization in AI, NLP, ML, or computational cognitive science
• 10+ years of combined academic and research experience
• First author research on scaling laws, evaluation metrics, or neural network architectures
