About the Role

Principal Applied Scientist role on Microsoft Word Copilot team, focusing on building and deploying state-of-the-art deep learning models and AI-powered experiences. Responsibilities include driving intelligent projects from ideation to deployment, leveraging generative AI, and mentoring team members. The role requires expertise in NLP, generative models, and strong software engineering skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Drive intelligent experiences from idea creation through implementation and worldwide availability
• Leverage Generative AI models and build/deploy deep learning models
• Work with research teams on adopting latest technologies and measure model impact
• Drive experimentation through A/B testing and offline validation
• Foster inclusive team environment, provide technical guidance, and mentor applied scientists

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

• BSc in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics or related field or equivalent practical experience
• Proficiency with Python and experience with TypeScript, JavaScript, C/C++
• 2+ years of experience in Natural language processing and Generative models
• 3+ years experience designing, developing, leading and deploying products/systems

Nice to Have:

• Extensive experience of applied science work (e.g., statistics, predictive analytics, NLP/LLM, research, machine learning, computer vision)
• Extensive experience conducting research as part of a research program in industry settings
• Master's Degree or Doctorate in Statistics, Machine Learning, Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering or related field
