About the Role

Depot seeks a Principal Design Engineer to accelerate software development by enhancing build performance and developer productivity. This role involves close collaboration with engineering and founders to design and implement high-quality solutions. The ideal candidate will have 7+ years of experience designing software and thrive in a remote, distributed team environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Pair closely with engineering and founders to initiate and deliver roadmap projects hands-on
• Communicate with customers to understand design improvements and build solutions
• Redesign key screens and flows to enhance product usability and address user issues
• Create mockups, prototypes, and high-fidelity visuals to communicate design ideas
• Implement a lightweight design system of components for product design consistency

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

• 7+ years of experience designing software
• Self-starter excited about hard challenges and comfortable with ambiguity
• Ability to distill complex problems and feedback into clear, focused design solutions
• Strong written and verbal communication skills with comfort in async collaboration across time zones

Nice to Have:

• Experience prototyping ideas with tools like Figma, AI, HTML/CSS, etc.
• Capability to ask questions, experiment, and advocate for design decisions
• Desire for ownership in defining goals and executing from idea to measurement
