About the Role

Principal Global CryoLab Support Engineer leads installation, commissioning, and operational support of cryogenic systems across Microsoft Quantum's global labs. This role requires deep cryogenics expertise and serves as interface between engineering, facilities, and research teams. Responsibilities include ensuring reliable operation of dilution refrigerators and cryostats essential for quantum hardware development.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead installation, maintenance, and upgrade efforts for dilution refrigerators and cryogenic systems globally
• Own end-to-end support lifecycle including routine health checks and diagnostics
• Drive remote and on-site troubleshooting to ensure high uptime and performance consistency
• Maintain and update standard operating procedures for system operation and safety
• Coordinate with vendors and stakeholders for cryostat procurement, delivery, and commissioning

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Cryogenics, Physics or related field with 8+ years experience
• Extensive hands-on experience operating and maintaining dilution refrigerators (Bluefors, Oxford Instruments, Janis)
• Experience with vacuum systems, pressure/vacuum plumbing, and leak detection
• Experience integrating quantum hardware (e.g. RF readout chains) into cryogenic systems

Nice to Have:

• Doctorate in Mechanical Engineering, Cryogenics, Physics or related field with 5+ years experience
• Proficient in interpreting system schematics, cryogenic layouts, and technical documentation
• Experience with DC, RF, and time-domain test equipment
• Knowledge of cryogenic automation, remote monitoring, or system control scripting
• Background in multi-site technical operations or global lab infrastructure teams
