About the Role

Research Internship focusing on designing and implementing state-of-the-art language and multimodal models to transform the Windows experience. This hands-on role involves working on machine learning projects from ideation to shipping, collaborating with researchers, and contributing to real-world impact at Microsoft scale.

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

  • Currently enrolled in PhD program in Computer Science or related STEM field
  • At least 2 years research experience in LLMs, multimodal models, agents, or reinforcement learning
  • Physically located at manager's Microsoft worksite for internship duration
  • Submit minimum of two reference letters, cover letter, and relevant work/research samples

Nice to Have:

  • Passion for incubating new ideas and building working prototypes
  • Experience training/finetuning large language models, model compression, distillation
  • Experience with Python and deep learning libraries
  • Desire to create reusable software libraries and packages
  • Experience with dataset curation, data generation using LLMs, model alignment
  • Experience with reinforcement learning libraries or formal methods
  • Experience of scientific writing in top-tier conferences/journals
