About the Role

Research Scientist Intern role at Meta's Central Applied Science team, focusing on developing novel quantitative methods and data-driven products using large-scale data. The intern will work on ambitious research goals while collaborating with scientists, engineers, and product managers to deliver impact across Meta's products and infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work with vast amounts of data to generate research questions and build data-driven products
  • Develop novel quantitative methods using Meta's data infrastructure
  • Work toward long-term ambitious research goals with intermediate milestones
  • Communicate best practices in quantitative analysis to partners
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, UX researchers, and product managers

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

  • Currently pursuing or have a PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, AI or related field
  • Experience analyzing datasets using languages like Python
  • Experience developing algorithms in Python, C, C++ or Java
  • Experience with empirical research and answering questions with data
  • Must obtain work authorization in country of employment

Nice to Have:

  • Expertise in AI, machine learning, NLP, information retrieval, or data mining
  • Experience with large-scale data systems like Presto, Spark
  • First-authored publications at leading venues (KDD, ICML, NeurIPS, etc.)
  • Intent to return to degree program after internship
  • Experience working and communicating cross-functionally
  • Software engineering experience via internships, competitions, or open source
