About the Role
This is a PhD-level research scientist internship at Meta focused on ultrasonic sensing for AR/VR applications. The intern will investigate ultrasonic wave propagation through complex media using experiments and simulations, exploring frequencies, waveforms, and propagation parameters. Responsibilities include designing experiments, analyzing data, developing computational models, and contributing to research plans.Key Responsibilities
- Design and perform experiments to study wave propagation through complex media
- Collect and analyze data from experiments using MATLAB, Python, or other software tools
- Collaborate with researchers to develop computational models of wave propagation through complex media
- Prepare reports and presentations on the results of experiments and modeling efforts
- Attend relevant seminars, workshops, and conferences to expand knowledge and skills
Required Skills & Qualifications
Must Have:
- Currently has or is in the process of obtaining a PhD in Physics, Engineering, Mechanics or relevant technical field
- Experience with experimental techniques to study wave propagation through solid materials
- Experience with acoustic signal processing methods
- Experience with ultrasound guided waves and ultrasonic waveguide design
- Experience with programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, or C++
- Must obtain work authorization in the country of employment
Nice to Have:
- Experience working and communicating cross functionally in a team environment
- Experience with ultrasound non-destructive evaluation
- Experience with finite-element acoustics modeling in Ansys, Comsol, or similar tools
- Experience with ultrasound transducers and coupling methods
- Experience with characterizing and modeling viscoelastic or hyperelastic materials
- Experience with CAD programs such as SolidWorks or AutoCAD
- Intent to return to degree program after internship completion
- Proven track record of achievements through grants, fellowships, patents, or publications
