About the Role

This is a PhD-level research scientist internship at Meta Reality Labs focused on developing novel semantic compression and communication systems for contextual AI. The role involves creating world-model aware perception technologies through algorithms and machine learning. Interns will work on end-to-end pipelines from sensor capture to neural decoding in a cross-functional research team.

Key Responsibilities

• Create novel systems and components for semantic compression and communication systems
• Advance state of the art for end-to-end approaches along compression/communications and machine learning pipeline
• Design, develop, prototype, execute and analyze systems for contextual AI systems
• Collaborate with researchers across various disciplines in cross-functional teams

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

• Currently has or is in process of obtaining PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Computer Vision, Machine Learning or related field
• Demonstrated research experience in Compression, Communications, Computer Vision, Digital Twin, World Model, or Machine Learning
• 2+ years experience using Python or C++ for Machine Learning and Computer Vision
• Must obtain work authorization in country of employment

Nice to Have:

• Broad understanding of communications theory and systems from conventional to neural network approaches
• Good understanding of end-to-end pipeline for semantic communication systems
• Proven track record demonstrated by grants, fellowships, patents, or publications
• Experience with software, system models, or communication systems via internships or open source contributions
• Experience solving complex problems and comparing alternative solutions
• Experience working and communicating cross functionally
• Intent to return to degree program after internship
