About the Role
Research Scientist role investigating how material defects affect superconducting qubit performance at AWS Center for Quantum Computing. Combines numerical simulations and materials characterization to study loss mechanisms and improve quantum processor performance.Key Responsibilities
- Provide subject matter expertise on integrated experimental and computational studies of materials defects
- Develop and use computational tools for large-scale simulations of disordered structures
- Develop and implement multi-technique materials characterization workflows for thin films and devices
- Identify material properties as reliable proxies for superconducting resonator and qubit performance
- Communicate findings to teammates and publish in scientific journals when appropriate
Required Skills & Qualifications
Must Have:
- PhD or Master's degree with 4+ years of quantitative field research experience
- Experience investigating feasibility of applying scientific principles to business problems and products
- Experience analyzing both experimental and observational data sets
- U.S. citizenship, permanent residency, or ability to obtain U.S. export license
Nice to Have:
- Knowledge of R, MATLAB, Python or similar scripting language
- Experience with agile development
- Experience building web based dashboards using common frameworks
