About the Role

Senior Applied Scientist role on the Microsoft Excel team, focusing on architecting and shipping intelligent systems using large language models and AI techniques. Responsibilities include end-to-end AI product development, performance analysis, and integrating experiments into production. Requires experience with machine learning, LLMs, and shipping at-scale features.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct rigorous analysis to evaluate performance of intelligent applications and identify improvements
• Execute projects from design through implementation, experimentation, and shipping to users
• Integrate experiments into production systems and maintain/optimize their performance
• Understand broad research areas and industry trends to apply in product development
• Prepare data for analysis by applying quality and technical constraints

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

• Bachelor's, Master's, or Doctorate in Statistics, Econometrics, Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, or related field with 4+ years (Bachelor's), 3+ years (Master's), or 1+ year (Doctorate) of related experience
• 1+ years' experience applying machine learning techniques and driving end-to-end AI product development
• 1+ years working with Large Language Models
• Ability to pass Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire and every two years

Nice to Have:

• 4+ years' experience applying machine learning techniques and driving end-to-end AI product development
• Experience working effectively end-to-end in challenging technical problem domains
• Experience shipping internet scale, low latency, and high availability systems
• Experience with Microsoft Excel
• Experience with python programming
• Experience with Applications of Foundation Models, Domain Adaptation of Foundation Models
• Experience with Prompt optimizations, Data Mining with language models, Agentic systems
