About the Role

Visual Studio Code is seeking a research engineer focused on AI features, particularly prompts and models. The role involves improving prompts, analyzing product opportunities for custom models, creating fine-tuning datasets, and enhancing engineering processes around data collection and fine-tuning.

Key Responsibilities

• Improve prompts to lower TTFT and increase response quality
• Analyze product and identify opportunities for custom model usage
• Create datasets for model fine-tuning
• Improve engineering processes and tools around data collection, cleaning, and fine-tuning
• Interact with users on GitHub and social channels

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

• MS in CS, Applied Math or comparable degree and field
• Experience as an IC (Individual Contributor)
• Excellent Python coding skills
• Demonstrated excellence in fine-tuning models used in production
• Demonstrated excellence in prompt authoring and refinement
• Deep understanding of performance optimization of LLM calls
• Deep understanding of data pipelines
