About the Role

This senior applied scientist role focuses on helping startups implement and optimize generative AI solutions on AWS. You will collaborate with customers to understand their business problems, design and evaluate generative AI applications, and provide technical guidance on best practices. The position requires deep technical expertise in generative AI and experience working with startups.

Key Responsibilities

• Collaborate with AI/ML scientists and engineers to research, design, develop, and evaluate generative AI solutions
• Interact with customers directly to understand business problems and guide implementation of generative AI solutions
• Help customers optimize solutions through model selection, training, tuning, distillation, and hardware optimization
• Develop understanding of startups' GenAI ecosystem to drive improvements to programs and customer experience
• Provide customer and market feedback to product and engineering teams to define product direction

Required Skills & Qualifications

Must Have:

• PhD or Master's degree and 6+ years of applied research experience
• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Python to build, train, and evaluate models
• 5+ years of experience in algorithms, data structures, parsing, numerical optimization, data mining, parallel computing, or high-performance computing
• 2+ years of experience with design, development, and optimization of generative AI solutions, algorithms, or technologies
• Experience in patents or publications at peer-reviewed conferences or journals

Nice to Have:

• Experience working in a startup or with startup customers
• Experience with design, deployment, and evaluation of Large Language Model (LLM)-powered agents and tools
• Hands-on experience with model customization techniques like fine-tuning, continued pre-training, and LLM-as-judge evaluation
• Experience with optimization of models on GPUs, Amazon Silicon, or TPUs, and with open source frameworks like LangChain or LlamaIndex
• Experience building generative AI applications on AWS using services like Amazon Bedrock and Amazon SageMaker
